Portola Valley Gas Leak Prompts Shelter-In-Place Alert
PORTOLA VALLEY (CBS SF) -- Emergency crews were responding Wednesday afternoon to a natural gas leak in Portola Valley, according to San Mateo County and PG&E officials.
Crews responded at 11:37 a.m. to the leak, which is in the area of 5 Valley Oak St.
Firefighters, PG&E crews and San Mateo County sheriff's deputies responded to the scene to evaluate the situation, sheriff's spokeswoman Deputy Rebecca Rosenblatt said.
County officials have advised nearby residents to take shelter.
PG&E spokesman Jason King said there is a 3-inch pipe leaking gas.
King said PG&E crews should have the leak stopped by around 2:30 p.m.
He said the line should be repaired sometime Wednesday afternoon.
Rosenblatt said crews responded to the scene after a report of asphalt bubbling up.
Investigators have not yet determined what caused the leak.
