Popular Soul Singer Robbed At Gunpoint While Filming Music Video In Oakland

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A well-known soul singer and his team were robbed at gunpoint in Oakland Monday, leading to the arrest of two suspects after they crashed their alleged getaway vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.

Music news website Okayplayer.com reports musician Bilal and his crew were packing up equipment after filming a music video around 3:15 p.m. in the 500 block of 23rd Street when they were held up by four assailants.

Responding officers obtained descriptions of the suspects and suspect vehicle.

That suspect vehicle crashed while exiting eastbound Interstate Highway 580 near 98th Avenue, and officers watched four suspects exit the vehicle and flee the scene on foot, according to police.

The subsequent search led to traffic congestion on eastbound Highway 580.

Two of the four suspects were detained. Officers were also able to recover some of what was stolen from the victims, police said.

Bilal's manager Hans Elder was present when the incident occurred. Elder told Okayplayer that no one was injured and everybody appears to be in relatively good spirits as the they attempt to retrieve the rest of the stolen equipment.
