Exclusive KPIX 5 Poll: Oakland Mayoral Race Up For Grabs Among 5 Candidates
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- It appears any one of five Oakland mayoral candidates has a solid chance of winning the November election, according to an exclusive poll.
A SurveyUSA poll conducted for KPIX 5 showed five candidates in double digits ahead of the ranked choice vote: Rebecca Kaplan (19%), Libby Schaaf (17%), incumbent Jean Quan (15%), Joe Tuman (15%), and Bryan Parker (10%).
11 percent appear on the poll as "undecided." There are a total of 15 candidates running for Oakland Mayor.
SurveyUSA said results came from 515 people determined to be likely to vote on or before the November 4 election.
The poll's margin of error was 4.4 percent.
Also known as "instant runoff" voting, Oakland's ranked-choice voting allows voters to mark second and third choices on their ballots.
If no candidate wins a majority of first-place votes, a process is triggered in which the lowest-ranking candidate is eliminated and the next-ranked choices on that candidate's ballots are distributed among the remaining candidates.
The instant runoff continues until there is a winner.
