Police Shoot, Kill Domestic Violence Suspect In Monterey County

MARINA, Monterey County (CBS SF) -- A man was fatally shot by an officer during an alleged assault Thursday night in Marina, police said Friday.

Officers responded to a report of a domestic violence incident at an undisclosed location in the city around 8:20 p.m.

Officers arrived to find an assault in progress and one of them fired at the suspect to defend the female victim, according to police.

The suspect was transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The victim was also taken to the hospital where she is being treated for her injuries, according to police.

The officer who shot at the suspect has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation being handled by the Monterey County District Attorney's Office, police said.

The shooting marks the fourth fatal officer-involved shooting in the county in nearly three months. The other shootings took place in Seaside, Sand City and Monterey that killed a total of four people, district attorney's officials said.
