Search For Gunman Who Shot Officer During San Francisco Traffic Stop
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- San Francisco police were scouring a neighborhood in Daly City to find the suspect in an officer-involved shooting in the San Francisco's Mission District Saturday afternoon, according to police.
According to Police Chief Greg Suhr the shooting occurred around 3 p.m. in the area of Florida and 26th streets, authorities said.
Police responded to a malicious mischief call around 2:45 p.m. Chief Suhr told KCBS that when an officer approached the vehicle, the suspect fired on the officer, hitting him in the right shoulder. Another officer fired several shots at the vehicle as it backed up and fled.
Police located the vehicle in Daly City near the Serramonte Shopping Center, but as of 6:00 p.m they were still searching for the suspect.
Chief Suhr said police believe they know who the suspect is.
The injured officer was treated at San Francisco General Hospital and is in stable condition. The 28-year-old is a 6-year veteran and police are not releasing his name, said Suhr.
