Father Arrested After Allegedly Kidnapping 1-Year-Old Daughter In Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) -- A man has been arrested after kidnapping his one-year-old daughter and barricading himself for hours before releasing the girl and surrendering to police, authorities said.

Police said Hollister resident Brian Sellen was involved in a domestic dispute early Friday morning at the Beachview Inn on Front St., about a block from the Santa Cruz municipal wharf. It was there where police said Sellen forcibly took his daughter from her mother, who was injured during the incident and hospitalized.

Police later surrounded a nearby apartment complex where they located Sellen and engaged in an hours-long standoff with him.

KION reported the child's biological grandmother was brought during negotiations with Sellen and the was turned over to her unharmed.

Sellen is facing kidnapping, child endangerment and domestic violence charges.
