Security Guard Shot While On Duty Saturday Night Is 3rd San Jose Homicide Of The Year

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- San Jose police are investigating the city's third homicide this year, police said.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Heather Randol told KCBS that officers were called to the corner of North Capitol Avenue and McKee Road at around 9:45 Saturday night on reports of shots fired.

Officers arrived and found the victim with at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Randol says the victim was a security guard at a nearby business and was reportedly looking into some sort of crime in progress. She says investigators are trying to piece together exactly what led up to the shooting and have no suspect description at this point but are searching for witnesses and security surveillance tape for clues.

This is the city's 3rd homicide of the year. Last year at this time San Jose had recorded 6 murders.
