Police Identify Woman Found Dead In Concord Park, Name Suspect

CONCORD (CBS SF) -- A body found in a Concord park early Monday morning has been identified by police, who are now seeking a man who has been named as a suspect in the woman's death.

A woman identified Monday afternoon as 25-year-old Poinsettia Parks was found floating at the edge of a pond at Newhall Community Park near the Boxer Boulevard entrance, according to police.

Parks, a Concord resident, was pulled out of the water by responding officers at 2:36 a.m. and was determined to be dead. It was also determined that she was the victim of a homicide, police said.

Police said Monday afternoon that 26-year-old Erick Lamar Nelson has been identified as a suspect in the case. The victim knew Nelson, according to police.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the man, who police said should be considered armed and dangerous.

Nelson was described by police as a black man with black hair and brown eyes who stands at 6 feet 1 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds.

Police said Nelson could be in possession of a black, four-door 2003 Kia Spectra. The vehicle's California license plate number is 5ENY919.

Anyone with information about his case is asked to call Detective Greg Pardella at (925) 603-5922. Police suggest that those who see the suspect do not approach him but instead immediately call 911.
