Police Search For 4 Suspects After Chase On Highway 4 In Hercules

HERCULES (CBS SF) – Four suspects evaded police after a vehicle pursuit that ended in Hercules on Thursday, according to a police report released Monday.

Hercules police were notified of the chase at 9:11 p.m. on Thursday, after Contra Costa County Sheriff's deputies had pursued the vehicle on westbound state Highway 4 into Hercules, according to police.

The vehicle, a silver BMW SUV, then took the Willow Avenue exit.

Sheriff's deputies terminated the chase due to traffic in the area.

Hercules police picked up the pursuit on northbound Willow Avenue.  Police said the SUV reached speeds upwards of 85 miles per hour during the chase, blowing through multiple stop signs and red lights.

The SUV eventually stopped at California Street and four occupants fled on foot. None of the suspects were located on a later search of the area, police said.

A firearm was found near the SUV, police said.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office is handling the case. An update on the search for the suspects was not immediately available.
