Pittsburg Police Create 'Exchange Zone' To Make Online Transactions Safer

PITTSBURG (CBS SF) -- The Pittsburg Police Department is creating a place for people to meet and complete online transactions in a safe manner.

The department announced Thursday it was adopting the "Exchange Zone" concept in hopes of deterring people from using websites such as Craigslist for criminal activity. It also helps residents maintain privacy by not disclosing the location of their homes, police said.

These zones are well-lit parking areas designated with a sign in front of the Pittsburg Police Department at 65 Civic Ave. The area is under 24-hour video surveillance, police said.
