PG&E Transformer Explodes Injuring 2 In Bernal Heights

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- PG&E is trying to figure what caused a transformer to explode in San Francisco injuring 2 people.

It happened Saturday morning in Bernal Heights.

Witnesses describe the explosion as similar to a bomb sending debris flying. One person was knocked out and another suffered burns. Both were taken to the hospital.

Crews spent most of the day trying to fix the damage and restore power.

About 60 were still without power as of 9 p.m.

Meantime, power was restored for about 5000 customers in the Sunset neighborhood.

PG&E said a raccoon came in contact with power lines at 17th Avenue and Lawton and caused that outage.
