Petaluma Police To Review Surveillance Footage In Fatal Stabbing
PETALUMA (CBS SF) -- Petaluma police will review surveillance videos from businesses surrounding a Denny's restaurant where a man sitting in his car was stabbed early Sunday morning, a police sergeant said.
The victim, a 33-year-old Petaluma man, was dropped off by friends in the south parking lot of the restaurant at 4986 Petaluma Blvd. North after spending the evening at the Graton Resort and Casino in Rohnert Park, Sgt. Marty Frye said.
He was in his compact car with the driver's window rolled down waiting for the windows to defrost around 4:30 a.m. when a man he did not know started to yell at him, Frye said.
The Petaluma man told the suspect he did not know what he was talking about and had the wrong person, Frye said.
The suspect then brandished a knife and stabbed the victim four times in the side of his torso and arm, according to Frye.
"Nothing suggests he was robbed," Frye said.
The victim sped away from the scene and drove himself to a hospital. He was later transferred to a trauma center.
"He suffered puncture wounds and is under observation," Frye said late Monday afternoon. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, Frye said.
The suspect, who was dressed in a dark jacket, is a white man in his 20s, standing approximately six feet tall with a thin build and a short buzzed haircut.
Frye said no one in the restaurant claims to have seen what happened in the parking lot.
Police are reviewing video from nearby businesses and from inside and outside the casino to see if the suspect followed the victim and his friends to Petaluma.
