Petaluma Police Dog Helps Track Down Drug Offender

PETALUMA (CBS SF) -- A Petaluma police dog helped apprehend a drug offender on Saturday, according to the police department.

Officers were dispatched to a report of a possible vehicle burglary at a home in the 500 block of Murray Drive at around 9:10 p.m., according to Petaluma police.

Officers spotted a suspect -- later identified as Christopher Ray Knapp, 28, of Rohnert Park -- walk from the front of one home to the driveway of another, police said.

While Knapp was detained for questioning, police K-9 "Jimmy" searched the area.

Jimmy quickly located syringes and more than a gram of heroin stashed on a tire of a pickup truck in the driveway, police said.

Knapp was arrested for heroin possession and violating probation.
