Alcohol May Have Contributed To Fatal Head-On Crash In Petaluma

PETALUMA (CBS SF) -- Petaluma police say alcohol may have played a factor in a fatal crash Saturday night.

Police responded at 10:07 p.m. to a head-on collision on Lakeville Highway between Pineview Avenue and South McDowell Extension.

Police said it appears a Lincoln traveling west on Lakeville Highway veered into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a Toyota Camry.

Both vehicles were severely damaged in the crash, and the driver of the Camry was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released the identity of the driver.

Police said there was a young child passenger in the Camry who suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Lincoln suffered major injuries and was transported to the hospital.

The crash is still under investigation, but police said it appears alcohol may have played a factor in the crash.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Officer Matt Capitelli at (707) 778-4372.
