Pepper Spray Accidentally Released At Seaside Store Leaves Shoppers With Irritated Eyes

SEASIDE (CBS SF) -- A large can of pepper spray was accidentally released inside a Seaside store and left seven people with irritated eyes Tuesday afternoon, fire officials said.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of a possible hazardous materials incident at a discount store at 1250 Fremont Blvd., Seaside Fire Battalion Chief Paul Blaha said.

Moon's Gift Shop is listed at that address.

Fire crews were notified of people who had difficulty breathing and evacuated the store's occupants when they reached the scene, Fire Battalion Chief Troy Leist said.

Seven people who complained of a burning sensation in their eyes were treated and released at the scene, Leist said.
