'Pee For A Fee' Business Connects Bursting Bladders With Tidy Toilets

NEW ORLEANS (CBS SF) - A newly-launched peer-to-peer service aims to connect people who are desperate to find a decent bathroom with available places to go.

Airpnp, a play on the Airbnb home-sharing service so popular in San Francisco, finds available restrooms the public can use for a fee, whether located in a business or a residence.

The service also recruits "entrepeeneurs" to add their bathrooms to the mix, along with their price – usually $5 or less.

Users can also rate the bathrooms for cleanliness, quality of toilet paper and other attributes.

The service is the brainchild of New Orleans-based software developers Max Gaudin and Travis Laurendine, who "routinely experienced the pain point of having no place to legally urinate" during Mardi Gras, according to the Airpnp website.

Gaudin and Larendine launched the service just in time for Mardi Gras 2014, capitalizing on what they call a "golden" opportunity, as 90 percent of arrests during Mardi Gras are reportedly for public urination, or "rogue pees."

Airpnp has already expanded to other markets, including the Bay Area with four restrooms available for rent.
