Woman Killed In San Jose Hit & Run Collision
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A woman killed in a hit-and-run collision in East San Jose Thursday morning has been identified as 46-year-old Laura Yolanda Reyes, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.
Around 7:15 a.m., officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a car in the area of Huran and Clarice drives, just north of Tully Road, police Officer Albert Morales said.
The woman, later identified as Reyes, was found suffering from serious injuries and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency crews, according to Morales.
Reyes' roommates told KPIX 5 that she was out on her morning walk, something she does every day.
"Every morning she did for her own health," roommate Mary Sapin said. "And I told her wait a couple more weeks and I'll be joining you every day."
Sapin said Reyes' husband also lived at the home. "He loved her a lot. He doesn't know how he's gonna do it. She was everything for him. So he's really destroyed too," Sapin said.
The car that struck the woman fled and was later found empty near the scene, Morales said.
The driver has not been found, according to Morales.
Police told KPIX 5 that the car was reported stolen several days ago.
The collision is the 31st fatal traffic incident this year in San Jose and the 14th involving a pedestrian, Morales said.
