Pedestrian Killed In Oakland Hit-And-Run At 32nd And San Pablo Ave.
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- One person was killed in a fatal hit-and-run incident on 32nd Street and San Pablo Avenue in Oakland Friday afternoon, according to police.
Lt. Chris Bolton said two male pedestrians were struck by a vehicle at 3:37 p.m.
According to witnesses at the scene, a silver car was "flying" down San Pablo and hit the pedestrians who may have been crossing the street. One of the pedestrians was thrown into the air and into the back of a pickup truck. That body remains at the scene covered by a blue tarp.
The vehicle that witnesses said hit the men is facing the wrong direction with a hole in the windshield.
Bolton said both victims were male adults and that one was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was transported to a local hospital with injuries that are not expected to be life threatening.
Police are treating the incident as a crime scene and are looking for and questioning witnesses.
"Mo went up in the air and landed in the back of the guy's truck," said Tamara Warren, a witness who claims to know both of the victims.
Police identified the man killed as Maurice Summerfield. Officers are investigating reports that indicate there were cars drag racing.
According to Bay City News Service, the driver left the scene on foot and left the vehicle behind. Police have released a description of the suspect or vehicle.
