Pedestrian Killed In Crash On Highway 4 In Antioch

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- A pedestrian was struck and killed on state Highway 4 in Antioch early Sunday morning, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The CHP responded just after 2 a.m. to a report of an unknown traffic hazard on westbound Highway 4 near A Street and arrived to find a body in the roadway, according to Officer John Fransen.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fransen said it appeared the pedestrian had been struck multiple times.

The CHP issued a Sig-alert and closed all westbound lanes near the scene of the collision for nearly three hours as officers conducted an on-scene investigation.

Information about how the pedestrian came to be in the roadway was not available, according to the CHP.

Anyone with information about the fatal collision is asked to call the CHP Contra Costa area office at (925) 646-1980.
