Pedestrian Was Chasing Dog When Fatally Struck By San Jose VTA Light Rail Train
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A man who was struck and killed Sunday by a light-rail train in San Jose while trying to retrieve a dog has been identified as 51-year-old Michael Felter, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.
Family members positively identified Felter, a resident of San Jose, according to the medical examiner's office.
At around 9 p.m., a light rail train struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Southwest Expressway and Stokes Street near Bascom Station, a San Jose fire dispatcher said.
VTA spokeswoman Colleen Valles said the preliminary investigation into the collision suggests that a person was fatally struck when they ran in front of a moving light rail train.
About 25 people were on board the train when the incident occurred. There were no other reported injuries.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation and the identity of the deceased person has not yet been released.
