Paying Cash To Ride SF's Muni May Soon Cost Extra

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- Riders wanting to pay cash to ride San Francisco's Muni system may soon have to shell out more of it if a new budget plan is approved.

The SFMTA is hoping to finalize a budget that includes a twenty-five cent charge for riders not using a Clipper card.

Supporters of the effort say using cash slows down the entire system, but critics say the surcharge is unfair to the casual rider.

The agency is also looking into charging for metered parking in the evenings.

The budget still needs final approval from the board of supervisors.
