3 Minor Earthquakes Strike Near Stanford Overnight
STANFORD (CBS SF) - The USGS reports that a series of small earthquakes hit near the Santa Clara-San Mateo County borders overnight.
The first quake was reported two miles southwest of Stanford University at a magnitude of 1.6. That tremor struck at 11:37 p.m. and was centered two miles underground.
A slightly larger quake hit the same area just before 3 a.m. The 2.2 magnitude quake was reported at a depth of 3.1 miles at 2:52 a.m.
A third, stronger quake with a magnitude of 2.7 was reported by the USGS at 5:21 a.m. in the same location.
All three quakes were centered near the San Andreas Fault.
There were no reports of injury or damage.
