Pair Found Sleeping In Stolen U-Haul Truck Arrested In Rohnert Park

ROHNERT PARK (CBS SF) -- Police arrested two people Sunday morning after officers found the pair sleeping inside a stolen U-Haul truck in Rohnert Park.

Around 9:45 a.m., officers patrolling near the 4900 block of Roberts Lake Road noticed a U-Haul truck backed into a parking space in a secluded area of a parking lot.

When officers checked the license plate number of the truck, they discovered the truck had been reported stolen out of Santa Rosa on Friday.

Officers then contacted two people found sleeping inside the truck's cargo area. They were identified as 25-year-old Hayley Reynolds and 22-year-old Ramon Soto-Basanez.

Officers ordered the pair out of the truck and detained them.

After discovering both suspects were on probation, officers then conducted a search of the truck.

Inside they found what appeared to be methamphetamine as well as drug paraphernalia. Soto-Basanez admitted that the confiscated items were his.

When officers asked them about the stolen truck, the pair denied knowing the truck was stolen and then gave conflicting accounts of how they got the truck.

Officers arrested Soto-Basanez on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, possessing a controlled substance and paraphernalia, in addition to violating probation.

Reynolds was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a stolen vehicle and violating probation.

The pair was booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
