Pacific Storm Prompts High Surf Advisory Along California Coast
SAN LUIS OBISPO (CBS/AP) -- Forecasters say very high tides and swell arriving from a Pacific storm will combine to bring the possibility of big surf and minor flooding of low-lying points along parts of the California coast.
The National Weather Service on Tuesday issued coastal flood advisories from Los Angeles northwest to San Luis Obispo County and south to San Diego.
High surf advisories will go into effect Wednesday for the Central Coast.
Forecasters said the high tides were predicted to range up to 6.9 feet but observations showed they were exceeding that and could rise to near 7.5 feet.
Midmorning high tides on Tuesday passed uneventfully, however.
The storm swell heading toward California is expected to produce the highest surf on west- to northwest-facing shores. Forecasters say waves could top 12 feet on the Central Coast.
