Pablo 'Panda' Sandoval Reportedly Sheds Weight Of Small Child

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Pablo Sandoval, known fondly as the Kung Fu Panda, has struggled with his weight almost from the instant he put on a Giants uniform, but but the Giants' Panda doesn't really look like a giant panda anymore.

Sandoval has shed a few pounds during winter workouts before, but the switch-hitter's weight loss this winter is unprecedented, a reported 42 pounds according to his brother Michael. Sandoval's eldest brother, Luis, was reportedly trained and hired as the slugger's personal chef last year. Here is a  look at the results from Michael's Instagram account:

Sandoval has dealt with weight and (possibly related) injury issues over the last couple of seasons. At 5'11, he was listed at 240 pounds last year, but his true weight was rumored to be closer to 270.

The third baseman is entering the final year of his contract, and Giants General Manager Brian Sabean has hinted that he would be open to an extension for the slugger, especially if he turns up to spring training in better shape than he finished last season.
