Overturned Container Truck Finally Cleared From Eastbound I-80 in Emeryville
EMERYVILLE (CBS SF) -- An overturned container truck transporting produce blocked lanes of eastbound I-80 in Emeryville Friday morning for hours, snarling traffic at the MacArthur Maze.
Authorities said the crash happened at around 10:15 a.m. CHP and Alameda County Fire units replied to the scene.
At around 10:24 a.m., CHP issued a severe traffic alert after a collision involving an overturned truck happened on eastbound I-80 west of Powell Street in Emeryville.
Officials later said the container truck was carrying large quantities of lettuce which spilled onto the freeway.
A post by the KCBS Traffic Twitter account indicated that the lane blockage was also impacting I-880 northbound and I-580 westbound.

Alameda County Fire reported that while the driver of the truck wasn't injured, he was transported to an area hospital as a precaution. Firefighters are tending to the driver's dog, who was also uninjured.
At 10:19 AM, E34 & E35 were dispatched to a rollover on WB I-80 near Powell Street. A large box truck was on its side blocking the number 1, 2 & 3 lanes. Shortly after 1 p.m., authorities were able to reopen the center lane, but the left lanes were still blocked as of about an hour later.

All lanes were finally cleared shortly before 3 p.m. The incident lasted nearly five hours.
Motorists are advised to expect residual delays and to use alternate routes to avoid the area.
