Overturned Big-Rig On WB I-580 In Dublin, Loaded With 6,000 Cases Of Beer, Causes Huge Backup For Morning Commute
DUBLIN (KCBS) -- The California Highway Patrol Thursday morning issued a Sig-alert following a crash involving an overturned big-rig on Interstate Highway 580 in Dublin that has caused a huge backup for commuters.
The crash was first reported at 3:12 a.m. on westbound Interstate Highway 580 near Paloverde Road.
Two lanes of the highway remained blocked and should remain blocked for until about 10 a.m. as crews work to clear the scene.
The driver of the big-rig said he had a medical emergency and went unconscious, running up the right shoulder and then tipped over.
He was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, including cuts to his head.
The big-rig was carrying 6,000 cases of Coors Light and Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, according to the CHP Officer Joshua Roderick.
"(There's)no oil, no gas--the only thing leaking from it right now is spilled beer," he said.
The 45,000 pounds of cargo all have to be off loaded before the big-rig can be righted, which further adds to the delay.
As of 6:15 a.m. traffic was backed up over the top of Altamont Pass.
