Overnight Closures Planned For Caldecott Tunnel Bore Over Next Two Weekends

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - Motorists can expect delays during overnight closures of an eastbound bore of the state Highway 24 Caldecott Tunnel from Oakland to Orinda over the next two weekends as crews work on the roadway, according to Caltrans.

The Caldecott Tunnel's far-left eastbound bore will be closed from 8 p.m. to noon on Friday and Saturday night and from 8 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday, Caltrans is reporting.

Closures are scheduled for the same times the weekend of Aug. 15 through Aug. 18.

During the closures workers plan to complete the realignment of the eastbound approach to the tunnel's second bore, which no longer needs to be shifted to accommodate westbound traffic. The alignment changes will reflect the bore's permanent eastbound direction and should make the drive leading up to the bore smoother, according to Caltrans.

Caltrans officials say the roadwork is expected to cause eastbound delays of five to 20 minutes. Westbound traffic should not be affected.
