One Killed, Two Injured In Oregon Expressway Head-On Crash In Palo Alto

PALO ALTO (CBS SF) -- A woman died at Stanford Hospital after her vehicle crossed over the median on Oregon Expressway in Palo Alto and hit a food delivery truck head-on early Thursday morning, a police spokesman said.

Palo Alto police Sgt. Brian Philip said a silver sedan traveling in the westbound lanes of Oregon Expressway crossed over into the eastbound lanes and hit the truck at 4:42 a.m., causing both vehicles to spin out.

Major damage was caused to both vehicles and the delivery truck driver, the woman driving the sedan and her passenger were all transported to the hospital.

Palo Alto police arrived on scene almost immediately and closed all westbound lanes from southbound U.S. Highway 101 to West Bayshore Road for investigation purposes. About an hour later, one westbound lane was opened to the public.

All eastbound lanes were closed until about 10 a.m.

The truck driver and the passenger, both men, remain at the hospital in critical condition.

The investigation into the crash by the Police Department's traffic investigations unit is ongoing.
