One Critically Injured In San Francisco's Visitacion Valley Fire

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A man suffered serious burns in a one-alarm fire in a home in San Francisco's Visitacion Valley Tuesday afternoon, according to fire officials.

The male resident was taken to the hospital in critical condition after firefighters found and rescued him inside a single-family home in the first block of Cora Street, fire department spokesman Jonathan Baxter said.

The fire was reported at 2:10 p.m. Baxter said it was initially identified as being at 25 Cora St., but was actually at a single-story home next door.

Firefighters responding to the scene found smoke coming from the home and smoke and flames visible inside. The victim was discovered only after firefighters forced entry into the home and began a search, Baxter said.

The fire was brought under control shortly after 2:45 p.m., and Baxter described damage to the home as "extensive." He said it was unclear this afternoon how many people will be displaced but neighbors indicated a family lived in the house.

The fire's cause and point of origin remain under investigation.
