Oil Spill Blocks Concord Street After Causing Motorcycle Crash
CONCORD (CBS SF) -- A large oil spill on a main Concord thoroughfare today was cleared by crews after it caused a minor crash, according to city officials.
Concord Public Works director Justin Ezell said a city employee discovered the spill on Monument Boulevard between Laguna Street and Walters Way sometime before noon.
Concord police Cpl. Christopher Blakely also reported that a call came in at 11:30 a.m. about a motorcyclist who crashed while turning onto the oily Monument Boulevard from Cowell Road.
The motorcycle was damaged but the driver did not suffer injuries, Blakely said.
The road was closed for more than an hour while Public Works crews were dispatched to the area to get absorbents onto the street so that the oil would not cause further accidents or end up in storm drains, Ezell said.
After hours of work, a street sweeper was called in to finish removing the oil and absorbent material, Ezell said. As of around 2 p.m., the road was cleared.
The source of the spill remains under investigation.
