Oceanview Road-Rage Stabbing Deemed Case Of Self Defense

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A woman stabbed another woman with a small knife in an apparent act of self defense following a vehicle collision in San Francisco's Oceanview neighborhood Tuesday morning, according to police.

The collision involving two female drivers occurred in the 400 block of Capitol Avenue shortly before 8:30 a.m., according to police Officer Giselle Talkoff.

34-year-old Lizzette Hasbon was driving with her 4-year-old child in her car when the crash near Sheridan Elementary School happened.

Hasbon said the other driver didn't yield when she should have and ended up swiping the side view mirror of her car. Before they even pulled out of the intersection, Hasbon told KPIX 5 she and the other woman started arguing.

"I'm literally hiding behind my car. My child was in there. I'm like, 'I will defend myself if you don't back up,'" said Hasbon. "I'm giving you full warning because when you do something like that you have to give them warning. I was like, 'Let's back up. I will defend myself. I have my 4-year-old child in the car.' She didn't listen so I had to defend myself with a little knife."

Hasbon said it looked like the woman was going to hit her, so that when she decided to act. She pulled out a small knife she had in her purse and used it.

"When you're this little, people are always going to try to intimidate you, said Hasbon. "Mothers will defend their children with their life. She didn't know who the hell she was messing with."

Despite feeling she was in the right, Hasbon admitted to some regret over the incident.

"Of course, I'm sorry that this happened, but I hope that she learns don't treat people that way," explained Hasbon. "Don't bully or intimidate people because you never know who you're messing with."

After being questioned at the scene, neither woman was arrested. Hasbon was released after investigators determined that the stabbing appeared to have been a case of self-defense, Talkoff said.

So far, no charges have been filed. The victim is recovering from non-life threatening injuries after the stabbing.
