Suspect Arrested In San Leandro After Shooting, Standoff In Oakland

OAKLAND (CBS SF) – A suspect was arrested in San Leandro after a shooting in Oakland Wednesday morning that led officers to believe he was holed up inside a building nearby, according to police.

Officers had responded at 8:07 a.m. to a report of a shooting in the 5300 block of East Eighth Street and arrived to find the victim, who was not injured, police said.

The victim and other witnesses told police they believed the suspect had barricaded himself inside a commercial building in the area, so officers surrounded it and made multiple attempts to communicate with him, police said.

However, investigators later determined the suspect had already fled to San Leandro, where he was safely taken into custody, according to police.

The department Twitter account posted shortly before 11:30 a.m. that the suspect was safely taken into custody and the incident was over.

A firearm was also recovered during the investigation.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the Oakland police felony assault unit at (510) 238-3426.
