Oakland Spa Named 'Isis' Gets Makeover 'For Obvious Reasons'

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- An Oakland salon with an unfortunate name has gotten a makeover of its own.

The former Isis Salon on the 4100 block of Broadway has changed its name to Elyssium Advanced Skin Care.

When the business started in 2004, the owner had it named for the Egyptian goddess of health and wisdom.

Lately, the name's association with the terrorist group led to negative publicity, and even death threats.

In a press release, the salon's founder Dr. Noha Aboelata said, "While the Isis name was appropriate, given recent global events, we needed to make sure the spa remained a place in which our clients feel safe and comfortable, so we felt compelled to change its name."

The salon has been featuring a banner which notes, "We are in the process of changing our name (for obvious reasons) …"
