Oakland Police Officer Hurt After Driver Crashes Into Patrol Car, Flees During Traffic Stop

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- An Oakland police officer suffered minor injuries when a driver crashed into a patrol car while fleeing from a traffic stop early Sunday morning in West Oakland.

The hit-and-run occurred at 12:28 a.m. Sunday in the vicinity of 52nd and Genoa streets. Officers patrolling the area in response to recent criminal activity attempted to stop the car when it turned onto Genoa, a cul-de-sac.

Instead of stopping, the driver put the vehicle in reverse and crashed into the patrol car, causing minor injury to one of the two officers inside before fleeing the scene.

Police Lt. Chris Bolton said in a statement that neighbors near and within the 5100 block of Genoa Street "may have seen a lot of police activity."

Bolton declined to provide a description of the vehicle, saying that information will not be released until investigators have followed up on all possible leads.
