Oakland Police Make Multiple Arrests In Unrelated Shootings That Injured Two Toddlers
OAKLAND (KCBS)— Oakland Police say they've made multiple arrests in connection with a pair of unrelated shootings on Monday that wounded two young children.
In both cases the children suffered non-life threatening injuries. Two men were arrested in connection to the first shooting where a three-year-old boy was injured at the 6500 block of International Boulevard shortly after 5 p.m., where he was standing by a bus stop. A 20-year-old man was also shot in that incident and is recovering.
Oakland Police Chief Sean Whent said investigators are also making progress on another shooting that happened hours later in a home on the 900 block of 83rd Avenue. The gunfire in that incident left a mom and her two-year-old son wounded.
Two adult males were arrested in the second shooting as well.
"In that case we believe the incident arose as a result of a personal dispute between two parties," said Whent. He said the residence was intentionally picked by the suspects in that case
Oakland Mayor Jean Quan said the city's murder rate has come down, but said the pair of shootings serves as a reminder that there's still too much violence and guns in Oakland.
Police said they were still searching for more suspects in the shootings, but did not disclose any further details.
