Oakland Making Bid For George Lucas Museum

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Oakland is making its bid for the George Lucas Museum.

San Francisco lost out on the museum last summer when George Lucas moved his plans to Chicago, but the Bay Area Council says Oakland is the perfect city for Lucas' plans.

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf joined the Bay Area  Council in a letter to Lucas saying "...Like your rebel alliance, it has battled great adversity against terrific odds," referring to the city of Oakland itself.

Lucy Armentrout of Oakland says the museum could put a larger spotlight on Oakland.

"We're always in the shadow of San Francisco, and I'd like to see us stand out a little bit more, and this would help."

But, Lucas still has his sights set on Chicago despite a host of legal problems.  He has mentioned Los Angeles as a backup plan, but locals and tourists alike say anything Lucas belongs in the Bay Area.
