Oakland Library Branch Closing For 5-Month-Long Renovation
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A branch of the Oakland Public Library is closing for five months of renovations starting in December, city officials said.
The Dimond Branch Library at 3565 Fruitvale Ave. is closing Dec. 23 and is scheduled to reopen in May of next year.
The renovation will improve the children's area and create a space just for teenagers, among other improvements.
The project is being paid for entirely by donations and grants. As of Wednesday, $660,000 had been raised, city officials said.
Patrons who placed items on hold for pickup at the Dimond Branch can pick up those items at the Cesar Chavez Branch Library at 3301 E. 12th St., Suite 271.
The book drops at the Dimond Branch will remain open and items will be checked in regularly, according to city officials.
