Oakland Hotel Evacuated During Search For Explosives

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- The California Highway Patrol briefly evacuated a hotel along the Embarcadero in Oakland on Monday evening as they conducted a criminal investigation, according to the Oakland Police Department.

The investigation occurred near the 1700 block of Embarcadero, police said on Twitter around 7:05 p.m.

CHP officials evacuated the Homewood Suites and blocked off several blocks of the Embarcadero as they looked for explosives.

The CHP said the search stemmed from an investigation following an arrest of a man by CHP on Sunday in Alameda County.

The bomb squad searched a room associated with that arrested man, as well as his pickup truck, parked outside the hoel.

Oakland police assisted the CHP with securing the perimeter and traffic control only, police said.

Around 9 p.m., the CHP gave the all clear and allowed people to reenter the hotel and surroundings.

Further information was not immediately available.
