At least 4 structures burned in fire near I-580 in Oakland Hills; firefighter injured
OAKLAND – Multiple structures have burned and a firefighter was injured after a vegetation fire broke out near Interstate 580 in the Oakland Hills Friday afternoon, firefighters said.
Around 2:15 p.m., the Oakland Fire Department first reported of a burning in the area near 35th and MacArthur Boulevard. Firefighters said crews were performing structure protection on Quigley Street near a Chevron gas station.

About 20 minutes later, firefighters said the incident has grown to a third alarm and that two structures on Quigley Street are actively burning. Multiple spot fires have been reported along the I-580 freeway.
A fourth alarm was called around 3 p.m.
Firefighters said as of 3:30 p.m., the vegetation fire was under control, but at least four structures have burned. One firefighter was also transported for heat-related injuries.

At least 80 firefighters responded to the incident, the fire department said Friday evening, with mutual aid called in.
A resident, who did not give her name, told KPIX 5 that she was called by her daughter that the fire was threatening her home. While her home was
"I immediately got my things and drove here from Pleasanton and I was in disbelief, it was a really difficult drive," she recalled.
The woman said her home was "mostly ok", but her neighbor's home was among those that burned.

The fire has also left several thousand Pacific Gas & Electric Co. customers out of power Friday evening. It was not immediately known when power would be restored.
The area has burned before. In October 2020, a grass fire near I-580 spread dangerously close to the Chevron station and nearby apartments. No buildings were damaged then.
Officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
