Shooting on Highway 24 in Oakland injures 1, closes all eastbound lanes
A shooting along Highway 24 in Oakland injured one person and prompted the closure all eastbound lanes of the highway Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
The incident happened before the Broadway exit from eastbound Highway 24 just east of the Rockridge BART station.
The California Highway Patrol said the initial report indicated a white sedan and a victim had been struck by gunfire. Officers located the white sedan on eastbound 24, but not the victim.
The CHP said the victim had arrived at a hospital with two gunshot injuries to the legs that were not life-threatening. It was unclear how the victim arrived at the hospital.
At 12:50 p.m., the CHP said all lanes were blocked just west of Broadway. Video shot from a helicopter showed CHP officers checking for evidence along the empty lanes near several vehicles that were stopped on the highway, including a white sedan with major damage.
At 2:18 p.m., the CHP said all eastbound 24 traffic was being diverted off at Claremont Avenue. The lanes were eventually re-opened at about 2:30 p.m.

Aside from the shutdown of eastbound Highway 24 lanes, the CHP temporarily closed the connector to Highway 24 from Interstate Highway 580.
There was no information on a suspect vehicle available. The CHP urged anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or anything that may have led up to it to contact the agency.
