Oakland Crash That Split Car In Half Kills One, Seriously Injures Another

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A 21-year-old Fairfield man died and a 20-year-old Oakland man suffered serious injuries in a high-speed crash late Wednesday in Oakland, police said.

Officers were dispatched at 10:57 p.m. to the 4200 block of MacArthur Boulevard on a report of a single-vehicle injury crash.

The 21-year-old victim, identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau as Jamil Brown, died when an Acura CL he was speeding in east on MacArthur Boulevard hit a tree, according to police.

When officers arrived, they found Brown unresponsive and the Oakland man with serious injuries.

Paramedics and firefighters treated Brown at the scene, where he was pronounced dead. The Oakland man was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition, police said.

Police said they are unsure whether alcohol played a part in the crash.

The force of the impact with the tree was so great that it split the Acura sedan in half.

The crash is under investigation and police are asking anyone with information about it to call the Oakland Police Department's traffic investigation unit at (510) 777-8570.
