Police Search For 29-Year-Old Man Who Fled Crash In Oakland, Leaving Injured Daughter Behind

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Police have released the name of the man wanted in connection with a high-speed pursuit Thursday that ended in a crash in Oakland and with the suspect allegedly fleeing the crash and leaving his injured child in the wrecked vehicle.

Police said Kelvin Govan, 29, left his 6-year-old daughter in a wrecked vehicle after he lost control and crashed into a wall on 85th Avenue during a pursuit with officers.

Officers were searching for suspects in an armed home invasion robbery that occurred Thursday morning in San Leandro.

Around 12:45 p.m., officers spotted a vehicle resembling the suspect vehicle on East 14th Street in Oakland, and when they tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver accelerated, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit, police said.

After the crash, the driver, identified as Govan, and a passenger fled the vehicle, leaving the Govan's injured 6-year-old daughter behind, police said.

The passenger was apprehended following the crash, but Govan was not located.

The child was transported to the hospital for injuries suffered in the crash and is expected to make a full recovery, but she will require surgery, police said.

Police said Govan and the passenger, whose identity has not been released, were not connected to the home invasion robbery police were initially investigating.

That robbery occurred shortly after 8 a.m. in a home in the Washington Manor neighborhood.

Police said four armed men wearing masks entered the home and robbed the residents of cash, jewelry and other personal belongings before fleeing in a dark blue compact car.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call San Leandro police at (510) 577-3230.
