Not Everyone Is Having Luck Replacing Recalled Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Phones

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- There may be a roadblock in the return process for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phone.

You know, the ones that could catch fire.

Turns out, not everyone is having luck returning their phones.

Kathy Love would love to get rid of her Galaxy Note 7.

"I'm always worried about it..." she said.

More than two months after Samsung recalled the tablets because they were catching fire, Love says neither her carrier nor Samsung will take hers back because she bought it on Craigslist.

Love said, "They said you'll have to go to Craigslist and find the third party and get a receipt."

A problem for Love, who says she can't find the seller and is worried the phone is putting herself and others in danger.

She says the delay has already forced her to cancel a flight because the phone isn't allowed on airplanes.

Love asks, "Why wouldn't they want to get it out of my hands? Because I could or somebody else could get injured."

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Samsung did agree to recall and replace the phone purchased through third parties like Craigslist and eBay.

But for more than two months, Love's had no luck.

"I've been trying to return this phone since the second week in September," she said.

Frustrated, she contacted ConsumerWatch. And we contacted Samsung.

Samsung says 85 percent of the 1 million recalled phones have been returned and refunded or replaced with safer models.

The company couldn't tell us why Love was given the run-around, but says "Customer safety remains our highest priority."

Any customer who bought a Note 7 from eBay or Craigslist should contact Samsung directly to obtain a refund or exchange, Samsung said.

Including Love, who is finally getting her replacement phone though she says she will be a little sorry to say goodbye.

"The camera on it is just spectacular...," Love said.

If you're having trouble returning a Galaxy Note phone, Samsung has provided this phone number for your convenience (844) 365-6197.
