NorCal Deputy Shoots, Kills Intruder Trying To Break Into His Home

OROVILLE, Yuba County (AP) -- Sheriff's officials say an off-duty sheriff's deputy shot and killed an intruder he said was trying to break into his home in a rural Northern California community.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Office said Friday that deputies were sent to a residence in the community of Challenge, about 80 miles (130 kilometers) northeast of Sacramento, around 11 p.m. Thursday, for a call of an intruder inside the home.

KXTV in Sacramento reported that the deputy called 911 before the shooting. The sheriff's department said he used his service weapon in the shooting.

State investigators will join the Yuba County Sheriff's Department to review the shooting.
