Developers Lose Millions, Users Lose Tempers During Outage At Apple's iTunes, App Store

CUPERTINO (CBS/AP) -- Apple restored service to its iTunes and app stores late Wednesday afternoon, but not before users' tempers flared and developers freaked out over lost revenue.

The rare outage began Wednesday morning and lasted more than 5 hours and affected the iTunes store, iBooks Store Mac App store and App store services.

Revenue losses were estimated at $1.14 million per hour, but that number could be inflated because the outage did not affect all users geographically.

Users were unable to buy iPhone apps or make in-app buys with their own software. Many took to social media to vent their frustration.

The outage was blamed on a Domain Name System (DNS) issue, according to Mashable.
