New Yorker Fed Up With Cold Weather Convinces Employer To Let Her Work Remotely From San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A New Yorker fed up with frigid weather convinced her boss to let her work remotely out of the company's San Francisco office.
Kari Beckerman made the push after deciding her winter wonderland wasn't so wonderful.
"I was getting a picture from my friend on her commute to work, and the sun was shining, and she wasn't wearing a jacket. On Friday morning I woke up and it was seven degrees," Beckerman said.
It was so cold in Beckerman's apartment, she woke up to find a cup of water on her bedside table "had a quarter inch thick sheet of ice."
The advertising sales planner asked her bosses if she could work out of a different office, 3,000 miles away in San Francisco.
As long as she paid her own way, they said go ahead.
"I still love New York. I love living there. It's a nice feeling that I can always come back here if I need to," Beckerman said.
UPDATE (3/2/15):
After spending a week thawing out in San Francisco, Beckerman was back in New York City on Monday, where it was 35 degrees for a high temperature, 19 degrees expected overnight.
