New Silicon Valley Car Company Aims To Produce Fastest Electric Coupe

CAMPBELL (KPIX 5) -- For the last four years, America's newest car company has been hidden away behind the doors of a Silicon Valley garage. But it's out in the open now and about to blow some doors off.

The Renovo coupe was built from the ground up one purpose: to be the world's fastest electric car.

"We think there is nothing on the planet today in this particular segment that offers something as unique and exclusive as what we offer in the Renovo coupe," said Jason Stinson of Renovo motors.

There's power and style under the hood. The coupe's battery packs and electric cables look like an old school gas engine, and it's built on a new version of the iconic 1960s Shelby race car body.

Even with the retro looks, it's loaded with today's technology.

"Eighty embedded microprocessors, high-speed data networks," Stinson said.

The Renovo is the product of a partnership that could only happen in Silicon Valley. CEO Christopher Heiser said, "Jason and I were friends, we were both in technology a long time. We watched as some of our friends went out and started Tesla. But we wanted a different product, a performance product, and we weren't going to wait any longer for anyone else to build it. We decided let's go build it ourselves."

Renovo motors plans to build about ten cars a year in their Campbell garage.

The coupe's technology may eventually trickle down into cars for the rest of us, but for now only it's only for a select few. Price tag is $529,000.
