New Pot Dispensary Rules In Effect In SJ; Clubs Say Shudowns Coming

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) - Controversial new rules that severely restrict the operations of medical marijuana dispensaries within city limits are now in place in San Jose, and many pot club operators say the regulation will put them out of business.

Shutdown letters will start going out in the next 90 days for business that, for example, are too close to homes and schools.

If owners find an approved location to move into, inside one of the city's designated industrial zones, they'll have a year to do so. Code enforcement officers will be looking at the facilities that have been receiving the most complaints first.

Part of the new law requires the businesses to grow their own medicine and make their own edibles.

The dispensaries say that's not practical, and have banded together to collect about 60,000 petition signatures to overturn the laws. However, many of those signatures are invalid.
