New Panoramic Movie Technology Comes To Redwood City Theater

REDWOOD CITY (CBS SF)-- A new type of panoramic movie technology was being unveiled in Redwood City Thursday night, one of only five theaters in the U.S. to debut the new format.

Cinemark Redwood Downtown & XD Theater will unveil its 270-degree screen in a preview event ahead of a its first use on September 19 premiere of the movie, "The Maze Runner."

The Redwood City venue will use a three-screen "Escape" theater configuration made by Belgium-based digital cinema projection company Barco.

The technology uses three digital projectors along with the three screens angled to create the panoramic effect.

20th Century Fox is partnering with Barco to provide the new movie screens at four other Cinemark theaters in Los Angeles; Davie, Florida; Plano, Texas; and Woodbridge, Illinois.
